Supporting our brothers and sisters in the Bootheel by creating pathways for healing trauma

Throughout the Bootheel region, Alive & Well Community Consultants lead ongoing Trauma Awareness training, with the goal of educating communities on the impacts of trauma through our new initiative, Breaking Through Trauma in the Bootheel. Alive & Well is dedicated to shifting cultures and systems and helping develop pathways to healing, well-being, and equality.

What is trauma?

Trauma happens when an event produces a lasting, negative emotional response that scars an individual. Experiencing a traumatic event can harm a person's sense of safety, self, and ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships. Trauma and toxic stress can affect our health and well-being long-term.

The Bootheel communities face many challenges that cause trauma, such as racial inequality, gun violence, poverty, health disparities, and easy access to illegal substances. Our local team understands the importance of working collectively and providing tools that will enable scars to heal.

Take The Next Step

Alive and Well has created pathways of healing that include many classes and seminars! Take the first step to disrupt persistent racial and communal disparities and cycles of trauma. As a community, we can build a common understanding of how trauma affects individuals and we can work together to create an Alive and Well community in the Bootheel.

Our programs & Events

Trauma-Informed Care Training

We welcome everyone to participate in our Alive & Well seminars in the area. We will be discussing the prevalent impact of trauma on children’s brain development. We will also go into more detail about what Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) are and the long-term effects on emotion and physical health. We will touch on how to move forward with trauma recovery and how we can shift individual and community perspectives on what trauma really is and how to overcome it.
